Happiness is not a station you arrive at, but a manner of traveling. --Margaret Lee Runbeck

This Is Your Brain On Happiness:
"Happiness can't be reduced to a few agreeable sensations. Rather, it is a way of being and of experiencing the world -- a profound fulfillment that suffuses every moment and endures despite inevitable setbacks." Matthieu Ricard, often referred to as 'The Happiest Man in the World" takes a deeper look at the complex relationship between our minds and happiness. [more]

It is God our creator who we should seek and in turn find Joy. His Joy that comes from Him, not our own shallow and imperfect selves.  Happiness in and of itself shallow and at most, fleeting, especially when we seek a false god and hope. This idea is idealistic at best and though it sounds good, it has no foundation. Lives fall apart when they are built without a foundation in Christ. When people believe they can change themselves on there own, they are setting themselves up for failure, because no one is perfect. Life is not perfect and we cannot be, "Happy," all the time through any situation.  However, we can have hope and be content if we have a relationship with our Creator because we have His peace that comes when we trust that His unfailing love will carry us through anything; be it just a mood, or bout of depression, or major catastrophe in our life.  You can rest assured that He has your best interest in mind and if you follow His direction; which is given through the Holy Spirit speaking to your heart, then you are in the best place you can be.  The reason people can be unhappy, though they appear to have everything, is not due to some failure to achieve on their part, but failure to open there heart to a relationship with their Creator.  There is a place in your heart, or soul, that was made by your Creator, just for Him, no other thing or person can fill.  Therefore, one will be unhappy if seeking alternative methods of "Happiness".  Furthermore, I personally have never experienced more "Joy" than when I have gone through an impossible situation and watched God come through in a miracoulous way. In my weakness He is my strength and joy. Happiness is wonderful to achieve if true joy accompanies it.

Thank you for that Rene.

I agree, inner peace and true happiness cannot truly be achieved until happiness with oneself is achieved, and happiness with oneself will not be achieved until happiness with one's Creator is achieved:

"There is an emptiness and void in the heart, which can only be filled with the Knowledge, Love and Remembrance of Our Creator, Most High" (Ibn Al-Qayyum).

I have witnessed situations and miracles so profound, they have enhanced my understanding of life and what our true purpose in this world is. Enabling me to realise: happiness is a state of being, that colours every situation, allowing one to see the good in all that occurs. Ever single one of us has the ability to attain true happiness, through turning to Our Creator, Allah, Most High, and discovering who and what we really are...

"Hearts find rest in the remembrance of God. It is in the remembrance of God that hearts find true tranquility" (Holy Quran, Chapter Ar-Ra'd, (13), Verse 28).

Discover the true purpose of life and 'gift' yourself with every reason to smile... :)

Reading articles on Hapinness took me back to my early years, some eighty years ago, when everyday living was in relationship with nature, time to go to school, time to play with friends without gagets and expensive things, eating and praying together, food items were totally organic, walking to school- a round trip- was two miles, no planes in the sky, and doctors' clinics were in thier homes. Applying all the criteria of happiness to ourselves, we were very very happy.Thank you for taking me back to my childhood. Now at the age of 85, I am revising my life style to regain that balance between work and play, aloneness and closeness, taking care of myself and others, serving me and serving others, and simplifying life with fewer possesions.
