On March 3, 2002, Robi Damelin’s world shattered. A Palestinian sniper shot and killed ten Israelis, including several soldiers, at a checkpoint near the Palestinian occupied territories. Among those killed was her 28-year-old son, David, an active member of the peace movement. What makes you come alive?
What actually gets me out of be and makes me come alive is the fact I am a part of an organization called The Parents Circle - Families Forum and through this organization , every day is filled with the purpose of changing the hearts and minds of both sides of this conflict to understand the humanity in the other. I am so grateful for being a part of transformation in the lives of people who have lost family members in the conflict and for the possibility to spread our message of reconciliation to both sides.
A pivotal turning point in your life?
Losing my Beloved son David, left me with a choice of what to do with my life. The choice was to to everything possible to prevent other mothers both Israeli and Palestinian from experiencing this terrible pain of loss.
An act of kindness you'll never forget?
The support of another bereaved mother who also lost a son in the conflict. She has been my dearest friend ever since.
One thing on your bucket list?
To stop the violence
One-line message for the world?
Every enemy is someone whose story we do not know
