Slovakia’s first climate law will officially enshrine the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050, set medium-term goals for reducing emissions by states, regions, cities, or businesses, and give citizens the opportunity to file climate lawsuits if the state does not fulfill its obligations. “For the first time, we will learn how to adapt the country to the challenges of the 21st century,” said Environment Minister Ján Budaj. The draft law is available for comments. The final version must then be approved by the government and subsequently by parliament.
