When wildfires and flooding shut down hiking trails across Globe, Arizona, that did not stop the city's residents from their hiking routine. In a collective effort, they cleared away overgrown concrete staircases used by the town's copper miners long ago, decorating them with artwork: historical scenes, cactuses, Gila monsters, and more. There are now routes such as a 1.4-mile stroll with 244 decorated stair steps.
