It was a moment that recalled decades of history when John Lewis’s Forever Stamp was unveiled in Atlanta. “The son of a sharecropper to a civil rights revolutionary to the man considered ‘the Conscience of the Congress’ was a journey that began with a letter and a stamp,” said his son John-Miles Lewis. He recalled his father's correspondence with Martin Luther King, Jr. “To receive a reply from one of the most important people in human history? Who not only writes you back, but asks you to join the movement? Two stamps put on two envelopes transformed history.” The stamp honoring the former US Congressman, who represented Georgia’s 5th District for 33 years, was unveiled by former postmaster general Ronald Stroman in front of a distinguished audience at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College.
