In an age where children are not protected from racial injustice and discrimination, it becomes crucial for health professionals to address the topic of race with families because research has linked the impact of racism to birth disparities and mental health problems in children and adolescents. Health professionals thus play a crucial role in combating racism by creating a safe, supportive and welcoming environment, acknowledging and validating experiences of racism, educating themselves and sharing resources about race and racism. Encouraging families to talk to their children about race and racism is paramount as it helps children understand differences, deal with racial bias and stand up to discrimination. Empowering families to take action and participate in community events and organizations working towards racial justice can also promote racial literacy and understanding
