Despite earning over 50% of bachelor’s degrees, women earn only about one-fifth of degrees in physics. But professor Tatiana Erukhimova, at Texas A&M University, is using social media to spread the message that women are just as capable as men when it comes to pursuing a career in physics. Her viral TikTok videos showing quick experiments have gotten millions of views over the past two years. “Watching Dr. Tatiana do the experiments online, especially since she was a female leader, was more inspiring for me to even go into physics,” said student Afiya Dhanani. Her videos ‘have really brought that celebration [of science] everywhere.” said Callie Rethman. Erukhimova was involved in a 2021 study that showed there was no consistent difference between male and female performance in physics grades over 10 years.
