The day in May 2022 when Chris and Brittany Tyler heard that a newborn baby had been surrendered at a Louisville Fire Department station, they hoped they’d get the call to pick him up. They had already fostered 17 children over the past seven years, and adopted two. Four days after he was taken to hospital, they were asked to foster the infant, whose mother had left him with a handwritten note, “I love you.” Samuel became the Tylers' son on Dec. 18, 2023, joining Judah, 8, and Calvin, 5, and will soon have another sibling. The Tylers are adopting a medically fragile little girl they have fostered for almost a year. The Tylers didn’t know much about ‘safe haven’ babies until Sam, and hope sharing his story will help raise awareness.
