India's forest cover has grown over 15 years due to advancements in forest conservation and sustainable forest management, says the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change. "Globally, India ranks third in the net gain, in average annual forest area, between 2010 and 2020," said a delegation to UNICEF. India’s high priority on biodiversity and wildlife conservation can be seen in the "expanded network of protected areas to over a thousand wildlife sanctuaries, national parks, tiger reserves, biosphere reserves, and other wildlife habitats," it said. India recently marked 50 years of Project Tiger and 30 years of Project Elephant. The delegation also highlighted creation of the International Big Cat Alliance and the 'Green Credit Program' to encourage tree plantation and forest restoration.
