'Dumbphones' Cuts Screen Time For Adults And Teens

'Dumbphones' Cuts Screen Time For Adults And Teens

Adults and teens concerned about their screen time are turning in their smartphones for “dumber” models, having learned that using social networking sites lights up the part of the brain triggered by addictive substances. At Dumbwireless in Los Angeles, store-owners Daisy Krigbaum and Will Stults cater to customers looking for low-tech devices. One workaround is a device called “unpluq”, which wirelessly blocks certain apps. Chris Kaspar’s “Wisephone II” will have some limited third-party tools, such as the taxi application Uber, but no social media, and only allows certain functions. He first developed the phone with his teenage foster daughters in mind and says that while 25% of their sales are to children, it is marketed to adults.
