Two adult rottweilers and four puppies were left in a truck in a remote area after it broke down while people were being evacuated from the Park Fire above the town of Cohasset, near Campbellville. It took three days before a member of the Butte County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue could reach the area via helicopter to rescue the dogs. After running a mile and a half to find them, Trevor Skaggs located the puppies and the mother, but the father had not survived. He gave the mother and puppies water and bites from his protein bar before getting them to the helicopter. The dogs are now with the North Valley Animal Disaster Group. The Park Fire is the sixth-largest wildfire in California history and has prompted thousands of evacuations.
