A Manchester couple's charity shop wedding cost only £200, covering a secondhand dress, wedding rings, naan breads and soft drinks. Yet Nina and Stefan’s September 8 celebration was far from austere. “You can only get to have a wedding like that by being part of a really strong community and by having some amazing friends,” says Nina. At nearby creative arts venue The Vale, the Northern Carnival Centre for Excellence, family and friends provided homemade cakes and shared dishes of food. Emmaus Mossley supports people who have experienced homelessness. Its Secondhand Superstore sells furniture, fashion, books, music and bric-a-brac alongside handmade and upcycled items, to sustain its 26-bedroom community and residents.
