She Deserves Uganda, a social enterprise that is working towards improving menstrual hygiene in Uganda, produces an organic solution to severe menstrual cramps - an oil called the Cramp Relief Droppers. In Uganda, 75% of girls in higher educational institutions report having the problem. Jackline Birungi, 23, who had to have heart surgery at 20 as a result of the health consequences of using painkillers to deal with period pain since she was 13, invented the product. The NGO teaches girls in schools about menstruation and how to make reusable pads, and the natural remedy, which has been certified as safe. The NGO has distributed more than 1,540 units.
