Staying completely still in a narrow MRI while a doctor peeks at your organs isn’t comfortable — no matter your age. That’s why LEGO employee Erik Ullerlund Staehr decided to design a LEGO MRI Scanner set for pediatric patients. It features a scanner, patient bed, waiting room, procedure room, staff mini figures, and medical accessories. Since the company rolled out the special kits in 2022 and donated them to radiology departments around the world, over one million children have used them. New research by LEGO Group found that 96% of healthcare professionals say it helped alleviate children’s anxiety and improved the family’s hospital experience, and 46% said it has reduced the need for sedation or anesthesia during MRI procedures. The sets are created through the LEGO Group’s social responsibility arm and donated through nonprofit partners. “It is amazing to see how this set is reducing the number of children who need to be put to sleep for their scans and improving the whole family's experience and wellbeing at what can be a difficult and stressful time,” said Diana Ringe Krogh, vice president and head of social responsibility.
