Philadelphia's faith community has moved FROM the pulpit to the front lines in addressing the city's growing gun violence problem, which has killed more than 250 people this year. Three faith leaders now advise District Attorney Larry Krasner and lead forums on gun violence at churches and mosques, run Philadelphia CARES to support families after homicides and run a Community Engagement Unit. Since 2009, Heeding God's Call to End Gun Violence has organized memorials and prayer vigils and promoted legislative action. In addition, the Black Clergy of Philadelphia urges more funding for grassroots anti-violence `groups` and the appointment of a czar to address ways to curb the violence.
