Australia has become one of three countries to have female representation of more than 30% on top company boards, without setting gender quotas; Canada and Britain are the other two. New research shows female representation on ASX200 listed boards has jumped from 8.3% in 2008 to 33.6% in 2021, due to pressure from investors and superannuation funds, media and the Women on Boards annual conference. The report recommended a national workplace gender equality strategy to open a pipeline of women into executive and board positions. Women hold only five per cent of CEO positions at ASX200 companies.
