Anthony, age 14, loves basketball but doesn’t have a hoop at home. He dribbles on his driveway and takes shots at a tree causing his neighbors to take notice. Neighbor Ian Ray noticed Anthony’s passion for basketball and decided to try to get him a hoop. He made a post on social media and was overwhelmed by the response. When Ian came to the door to present the hoop, a ball, and a gift card to a local sports store, Anthony was afraid he was in trouble for making too much noise. He was floored when he learned his neighbor’s intent. The card Ian presented to him read, “Anthony keep following your dreams and work hard and anything is possible, Love the Rays and all the North Side.” Community members donated $750 to help the boy reach his dreams of becoming an NBA player.
