U.S. Jobless Claims Have Dropped for a 7th Straight Week, Hitting a Pandemic Low

Applications for unemployment aid went down in the US from 900,000 in January 2021 to 273,000 in late November 2021, a reflection of the labor market's strong recovery from last year's brief but intense coronavirus recession. In March and April 2020, employers had slashed more than 22 million jobs and more than 33 million Americans were receiving some form of jobless aid. The government’s relief checks and decline in Covid cases have fueled an encouraging turnaround, with an increase in consumer spending and job openings. Workers, however, are being choosy, seeing a rare opportunity to work out something better for themselves.
