In 2017, renowned rapper Logic released a song called "1-800-273-8255," a title in reference to the phone number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The rap describes a high school student who is contemplating suicide, but after a call to the hotline, decides to keep his life. Logic wrote the song from a warm place in his heart, but little did he know the impact it would have on listeners—a study published by BMJ saw an increase of 6.9% in calls to the Lifeline and an estimated 245 fewer suicides that were averted. "I just wanted them to know that they really weren't alone," said Logic. "That's why I write songs like that... because I want people to be themselves, no matter who they are or what they do."
