Approximately 40% of the European Union's gas comes from Russia. As the war in Ukraine escalates, the EU has formulated plan to cut their reliance on that country's fuel by two thirds, within the year. The ultimate goal of REPowerEU is to end Europe's dependence on fossil fuels from Russia by 2030. While finding alternative gas supplies and boosting green energy is challenging, it is imperative the change be made. EU Commission Vice President Frans Timmermans told the BBC that, although hard, "it's possible if we're willing to go further and faster than we've done before."
