An 83-year-old retired arts administrator and a 20-something university student really started something. Sheltering in place, retiree Carol Sterling was yearning for some fresh food, so she contacted her synagogue to see if anyone could help out. Big-hearted student Liam Elkind stepped up. Not only did he and his friend Simone show up at her doorstep with bag full of salad fixings and oranges, in 72 hours they amassed 1,300 volunteers to deliver groceries and medicine to older New Yorkers and other vulnerable people, calling themselves "Invisible Hands."
