The Story of Change

It's not easy to change a dysfunctional system that puts corporate profits above the health and happiness of people. It takes more than just "voting with our pocketbooks"; it takes political involvement. In her latest film, Annie Leonard gives us a simple formula for social transformation: CHANGE = a big idea + collective identity + action.

Citizens' action doesn't always have to be an angry protest. Send a note of encouragement to a politician that you feel is doing positive work.

Really awesome :-) I really appreciate the emphasise on when people take action in small ways we can create big change - but how important it is to go beyond that. It reminds me of the powerful quote 'Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world, indeed it is the only thing that ever has.' - Margaret Mead.
We can't do it alone!

Great video!! Change comes from within ourselves but it's when we take action that it can endure and be the exemple for others.

I think we need to quit automatically thinking government should solve our problems for us. WE are the government, not the politicians. True, we may have to work with politicians and big business (I don't believe "Corporations" are essentially evil), but we, the people, made these problems. We need to examine all that "stuff" to see what we want and what we actually NEED. Also at the root is the fact that we think "stuff" will make us happy. Its only a temporary "fix." I am wary of militant action and forcing people to do something that may not turn out to be the best avenue. I love the idea of persuasion and a really thinking group who have no power agenda, but only want what is good for our country, our world - to put forth ideas. One at a time might be good. One stable and wise step at a time, no power ploy, no ANGER and unnecessary conflict, and I'm in.

Change is a big word; the only change that would work for all of us is get rid of the current congress, all of them. When you go to the ballot box dont vote for the incumbent, vote for the new guy, lets brake up the club of incompetence in DC. If ou dont like the new guy, vote him out the next time. Nothing, but nothing can be worse than what is on the hill now, with new ideas and ew people the rest will follow to clean up our country and planet

The video is well laid out, simple and to the point. I feel that change in this respect is the responsibility of each individual person, and not government or corporations, even though both have the responsibility to adjust and focus on change. Change in these two sectors is difficult, but as the video shows, if people start demanding and taking action both have no choice but to change. Neither can afford to ignore demand, corporations must respond in order to survive, and politicians must be responsive to peoples demands as well. Having said all that, ideally, city, state and the federal governments should take the lead towards change. Realistically, people have to exert pressure for either one of them to get off their rear ends and act.

Annie Leonard has such a gift for getting to the essence. I am a communicator, nurturer and networker. The film inspired me to focus on these talents and do my part to help all of us take action. Thanks Karma Tube Team. You are the Best!!!
