A Girl Like Me

Why is it that even today, when children of color are given the choice of two dolls, one darker-skinned and the other lighter-skinned, most will select the lighter one? This essential entry into the Sixth Annual Media That Matters Film Festival deftly explores issues of race, identity, and desirability--and societal standards that are often impossible to meet--from the point of view of the young African-American girls who are being asked to live them.

What an incredible film.

This film really made me think, while it broke my heart. I found myself asking, "As a white girl, what is it I could do to help make a change?"

That made me so sad that the kids picked up those negative ideas about black skin so early.
From what the girls were saying, it makes you think whether there should be some kind of fund for people who want to find out their ancestors' culture. I mean the US govt should pay for it.

It was a really good short film.
