How a Cooperative Conserved Rainwater to Grow a Forest

In the drought-prone area of Dharmapuri district, Piyush Manush, an environmental activist from Tamil Nadu, India, has shown that growing a forest and rainwater harvesting can be a profitable business and generate livelihood. His cooperative is a 250-acres green patch with a number of rainwater harvesting structures spread across the area. Not only does this forest, with a million bamboo and Aloe Vera plants, demonstrate that forestation can be a decent source of income (varieties of fruit trees also provide seasonal revenue), it is also a sustainable and eco-friendly way of living.

Piyush Manush began right out of college to make his vision a reality by buying a few acres in 2007 and beginning to plant trees. Perhaps there is a way you bring new life to problems in the natural world near where you live.
