KAMOME (Seagull)

What would it take to prove just how much we have in common? This is the inspiration behind the film "KAMOME" made to show the auspicious friendship between the citizens of Rikuzentakata, Japan and Cresecent City, California.  The residents of both cities share a passion for working on the ocean and a deep love and respect for the dangers as well as beauty of Mother Nature. The shared tragedy of a tsunami revealed a bond of loss and resilience -  a Oneness of spirit and shared humanity.  Through their story we too may realize the bond shared with all others on the Earth though we may never see or talk to each other. No matter where we are, there are others like us who labor and love just like we do, brothers and sisters on this planet we all call home.

Around the world humanity moves forward because of kindness, compassion and hope .Chance made the boat connect the people of two cities from altogether different continents but the good hearts there took the connection to altogether new level . And they took it one notch higher every year . It is one thing to pass through every experience in life trasactionally but it is a totally different ball game to live through the experience fully and feel the souls connected with that experience . Three cheers to people of both cities .May the friendship between people of both cities grow stronger and stronger.

This was very heartwarming and inspiring. Taking the time to do something that seems small for another person can seem like an empty gesture, something meaningless, even time wasting. This video really drives home the difference "one boat" one caring, selfless gesture can make. The increase of empathy and caring I can see in these students, and the fact that Crescent City and the town in Japan have continued the exchange gives me a spark of hope for what's possible. I wish it wasn't so improbable and rare, and I wish it did not take devastating loss for people to reach out to see, really see each other. This is a beautiful story and I love the ending of the redwood tree being planted in Japan by the two mayors. Someday, I'd love to see it and the original surviving Pine. Nice Donavan touch at the end too-Happiness flows in a circular motion indeed.
