Doctors Thought the Smaller Twin Was Struggling in the womb. She Was Perfectly fine. She Had Been Saving Her sister.

At 21 weeks pregnant with twins, Leah McBride was told one daughter would need to be terminated to save the other-but she refused to choose. Poppy, the smaller twin, had been giving away so much blood and nutrients through twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome that doctors feared her heart would fail, yet when her erratic heart rate finally forced an emergency delivery at 31 weeks, she emerged perfectly healthy. It was her larger sister Winnie who needed intensive care and brain surgery. "I think your tiny twin saved her sister's life," doctors told Leah, believing Poppy's distress signals had triggered the early delivery that kept Winnie alive. Now six, the girls remain inseparable-when their beds were moved apart, they insisted on being reunited.
