Gujarat Gen-Z Wildlife Volunteers Rescue Animals Through Whatsapp Networks and Emergency Calls

In Gujarat, young people are closing the gap between watching wildlife rescues on their phones and becoming the rescuers themselves, responding to WhatsApp alerts about snakes in stairwells and birds trapped on ledges. These Gen-Z volunteers leave college mid-lecture or step away from dinner without fanfare, carrying little more than basic tools and knowledge passed between calls. "Fear does not disappear, but it becomes familiar enough not to stop them," the pattern repeating until showing up becomes simpler than staying home. The work is unglamorous-calming frightened residents, moving slowly so haste doesn't create danger, then returning to ordinary life with no applause. What emerges is quieter than heroism: a generation learning that the distance between scrolling and acting can be crossed with a single decision to go.
