Hope MacGregor was running through her Tennessee neighborhood-grief dressed as exercise, a divorce she hadn't told anyone about. Then a neighbor stepped outside and waved her down, not to pry but to say she'd noticed the progression from walking to running and wanted MacGregor to know she was proud of her. MacGregor, a former Army helicopter pilot turned singer-songwriter, burst into tears on the spot. The neighbor hadn't known about the divorce or what the running meant-she'd simply witnessed someone moving through something and decided that was worth acknowledging. "I just want to let you know how proud I am of you," she told her, words that arrived at exactly the right time from someone who had no way of knowing they were needed.
