Two companies are proving that sustainability's future might lie not in manufacturing more, but in reimagining what we already have. Connected Energy transforms spent electric vehicle batteries-no longer strong enough to power cars-into massive storage units that balance renewable energy grids, while Renewable Parts dismantles aging wind turbines to remanufacture components that are cheaper, lower-carbon, and often better than new. "For every tonne of steel you don't have to manufacture, you save about three tonnes of carbon," explains James Barry, who left a 25-year career at Rolls-Royce to build this circular vision. Both ventures reveal an elegant truth: the greenest technology may be the one we've already made, waiting to be seen differently.
