In the township of Alexandra, Phumzile Mnguni saw abandoned dogs not as a problem to look away from, but as lives deserving the same dignity as any other. She founded the Gomora Dog Association with little more than a bag of dog food and an unwavering belief that "in Gomora, dogs are family" -- an organization that now feeds, heals, and educates a community about the animals in their midst. Lu Cee, a malnourished street dog with a painful ear infection and deep mistrust of people, found her way into Phumzile's home and slowly learned to trust again, becoming "my baby Lu" and a living reminder of why this work matters. What began as one woman's compassion has grown into weekly feeding routes, veterinary care, sterilization drives, and a movement to restore the wagging tails and well-being of dogs who had been left behind.
