A childhood spent in a hospital bed gazing at woodland gave Gavin Munro a vision that would take decades to realize: furniture grown directly from living trees. For twenty years, he and his wife Alice have coaxed willow, oak, and ash branches over metal frames, grafting bark to bark until chairs emerge from the orchard itself-a process that takes up to nine years per piece. "It's like bonsai meets 3D printing," Gavin explains, describing the delicate work of bending growth itself into form. The chairs, valued as artworks at nearly $100,000 each, represent something beyond craftsmanship: a patient collaboration with nature that transforms limitation into creation, much like Gavin's own body once required straightening before it could grow strong.
