A tragedy that could have faded into private grief instead became a question Dr. G. Hemalatha refused to stop asking - and that question, over time, became a milk bank that has nourished more than 4,000 newborns who had no other way to survive. More than 5,000 mothers came forward, donating over 600 liters of breast milk after feeding their own children, expecting nothing in return, and sometimes being questioned for it. One donor, Lavanya, responded to the skeptics simply: "Good deeds should be encouraged, not discouraged. A mother's milk is one of the purest things in this world." These women never meet most of the babies they save, yet what this story quietly reveals is that the circle of maternal love is not fixed by biology - it can expand, when someone makes it possible, to hold thousands of strangers at once.
