Dr Sarladevi Khot’s Story: the Doctor Who Delivered Her Own Baby

Widowed at ten, Sarladevi Khot might have disappeared into the margins of history - but a grandfather's quiet promise that she could keep studying changed everything. She became a doctor, served mothers and children across two continents, and once, with her husband away and labor beginning early, calmly instructed a teenage nanny through the instruments needed before delivering her own child alone. Her granddaughter, Dr. Nilima Kadambi, grew up on that story and others like it, until she understood they were too important to keep only in memory - so she wrote them into a book, *My Ajji and I*. What the story ultimately holds is something both intimate and large: the way a single act of faith in a child's potential can ripple outward across generations, shaping not just one life but the communities that life chooses to serve.
