‘Education Took My Father From Rickshaw to Railways’: She Now Brings Rs 100 Coaching to 7000+ Rural Kids

Archana Jaisal grew up watching her father pull a rickshaw while studying for the exam that would eventually move their family from poverty into possibility - and when he died young, it was education again that kept his children from falling back. Years later, when she found children in rural Uttar Pradesh attending school but unable to recall their own lessons, she recognized the gap not as a statistic but as a wound she understood personally. She built Shiksha Saathi to close it, training village women to teach in their own communities for fees as low as Rs 100, so that neither distance nor cost nor gender would decide who gets to learn. "In villages, students have the talent, but they don't always have the opportunity," she says - a conviction that doubles as her inheritance from a man who once took a stranger's offhand advice and turned it into a different life for his children. Now, when a ten-year-old named Riya says that Maths used to frighten her and no longer does, or when a nineteen-year-old teacher pays her own tuition for the first time, Archana is watching the same quiet reversal her father once lived: circumstance bending, slowly, toward possibility.
