For 39 years, Marilyn Hampton showed up - mopping floors, buying school supplies for kids who needed them, cheering at football games, and quietly turning smiles "up instead of down." The Aubrey Independent School District outside Denton, Texas, recently named its newest elementary school after her, a woman who once thought of herself as a failure and never imagined such a thing was possible. "It's an honor that I never thought in my lifetime I would have seen," she said through tears, still unable to fully believe it the next day. Her story is a reminder that the people who shape children most durably are often the ones history overlooks - and that a community paying attention can change that.
