Yes, that was called positivism or behaviorism, old "scientific" methods now disproven, because they cannot rightly call science what is just crude philosophy, wrongly expanding science to include "mechanistic" images of nature. They play with robots, dreamily seeing them as machines that will "some day" duplicate or excel humans. But robots are more like puppets, a mythic "enchantment of technology," explained in my book with the same title. Lee
