A Brave and Startling Truth

Sep 16, 2022-- Science and poetry come together in this moving reading by Astrophysicist Janna Levin of the poem "A Brave and Startling Truth" written by Maya Angelou. The poem, inspired by astronomer Carl Sagan, actually flew into space on the Orion spacecraft. Angelou dedicated the poem to "the hope for peace, which lies, sometimes hidden, within each heart." As she points out the contradictions of our making weapons while silently praying for peace, the poet urges us to see the startling truth that "...we are the possible, we are the miraculous, the true wonder of this world."
