My House Is Your House

The way attorney and UCLA lecturer Tony Tolbert figures it: you don’t have to have money to be generous. Tony became inspired by Kevin and Hannah Salwen, who sold their 6,500 square foot home, and donated $800,000 to charity. He decided to loan his home to Felicia Dukes, a single parent of four, for a full year. After giving birth to her fourth child, Felicia fell behind on payments, and became homeless. Thanks to Tony’s generosity, Felicia could recuperate financially and emotionally. As for Tony? He’s planning to donate his home again to another family in need.

Wow, very inspiring. Our homes can become so much of our identity: to let go of that is truly amazing. Bless this man.

It inspires us to look into our own opportunities to give and find the things I can give up to make somebody else's life happy and in order.

The feeling of joy that this generosity exists in us, when we see and hear so much of the opposite. In little or big ways, good people are everywhere, and this is affirming of that fact.

Thank you . Generosity and a very big heart .

Tony is right on the mark when he said his lesson was "letting go ..." Everything in the Universe is in motion and 'flows' except as humans we want to 'own stuff' and we stop it flowing. That amazing human being R Buckminster Fuller said that ownership was probably human beings biggest mistake. But as Tony has shown us it can very easily be reversed ...

Mr. Tolbert's generosity is amazing. I believe that homelessness should not be a problem in the United States. How many people over the age of 40 own homes where one or more of the bedrooms is not used nightly? How many elderly seniors are living alone and could benefit from sharing their home with others? We need to adjust our thinking and our ways of living so we can all have better lives. Here are a few websites that can tell you how this is possible: http://nationalsharedhousing.org/ http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-t-miller/shared-housing-can-help-s_b_6339814.html

I have two nephews, ages 49 and his son, 21, who evicted from their home for non-payments of rent. It wasn't because my nephew didn't work; he just wasn't making enough. So they came to live with me. On occasion I would find myself being a little resentful and I knew this wasn't Christ-like in attitude. This story, however, made me realize that we must open our hearts and help those when possible. I will work on being more patient and understanding of my nephews plight and wish them well in my heart.

Great story! Thank you for sharing it. I have a feeling that Felicia and her family will "pay it forward" at some point, which would make the story even more special.
