I definitely think not -- sometimes the environment is ready for that change, and in other cases, now might not be the moment. But if we continue to develop attention and intention, my sense is that we can then serve the natural pattern more effectively right there and then -- and then perhaps something opens up down the line.

Your directed point immediately cancel yourself out and all the labels of shame, failure, and lack of interest are interior work and self debasing. A good rule is to become the student in such cases and in so doing you will find the "lose thread". I've never fixed anything in my life. All things in life were created by someone else, and so, I became the knower of the creator. Absorb the knower and become a part of experience.
