What makes you think they don't? I taught school for 20 years and have tutored in them as well since I retired a few years ago. Especially in the lower grades, kindness is a daily topic and always part of the classroom rules. It is taught throughout every subject and in many ways, e.g., peer tutoring, assemblies, awards, etc. In fact, it is also on the report cards under behavior.
