The Age of We Need Each Other

This article really hit home - so many of us have felt these things! I know i'm not the only one comparing myself to others, wondering why I don't do things that change the world? How is it that some 8 year old thinks of feeding all the homeless in their city and makes that happen? The article before this one was about Larry Brilliant, who has certainly led a charmed and spectacular life of service. Why do those people become well-known and the rest of us exist in some obscure depth? Have we just not gone far enough, not done enough for humanity? Those kinds of stories make me feel inadequate, like I just don't care enough or I would have thought of doing something just as grand.
I came to the realization, too, that I wasn't meant to be those people. I do what I can - take care of a few feral abandoned cats, three horses rescued off the range, I work as a 911 dispatcher where I answer the phone anonymously and send people help every day. The anonymity can be satisfying because I know this isn't about being recognized. I also know that if I do my job well, people will certainly be helped!
