I have also been a storyteller since I was a child. Garrison Keillor is a favorite of mine in the craft, perhaps even a mentor as far as storytelling goes? Keillor has often remarked that we storytellers are really just good liars! I suppose that's partially true? I've always loved, read and wrote historical fiction -- which is of course a form of lying. We tellers prefer to call it "enhancing" the truth to make it more entertaining. My wife is currently reading one of my favorite authors (storytellers), Jan Karon, "Somewhere Safe With Somebody Good". Jan is a lovable liar too, but there is deeper (hidden?) Truth in her weaving.
God-incidentally, Jesus too was a delightful storyteller, although I'll hesitate here to call him a liar! His parables were meant to touch people of the time right where they lived with God's Truth. His stories were of course prophetic for all to hear, even now. As for myself, sometimes I'm telling stories (lies) for entertainment sake alone, but often the telling has a prophetic purpose in the Lover of our souls. My task is to keep it all straight -- only by Grace, lotsa Grace.
