I disagree; allowing your kids to be alone and forcing your kids to be alone are two different things. I don't think the author was suggesting to deny interaction with children just for the sake of teaching them to be alone. I think he was suggesting just letting them be if they choose an activity on their own.

It doesn't say to leave them. It says to foster independent thinking and creative problem solving. Give them time and space to figure things out. Give them appropriate choices and let them follow thru with what they pick and teach them not to quit.
