The Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO is a fantastic public space. The Plaza is the first designated shopping district in the USA. Make sure to see it between Thanksgiving-New Years to see the Plaza Lights. All the buildings are outlined in lights and they are spectacular. While you're there enjoy the Nelson Art Museum and so many other things.
My second fantastic public space is the "midrachov" pedestrian mall in downtown Jerusalem. Wish I was there.
