yes! I am an elementary school teacher too and I work really hard to teach cooperation, compassion, persistence, and organization as well as many of the other character centered items mentioned here. People are so quick to blame teachers and schools but a lot of these things listed will be most genuine and meaningful when they are rooted in the home and community environment, not only in a classroom setting. Children learn things all day all the time, not just when they are in an academic setting!
