One of my greatest friendships began when another young mother and I started talking to one another during our daughter's ballet lessons. That friendship has lasted beautifully for over 60 years. Another "accidental," but rather "life-changing" encounter began on a Greyhound bus when I began talking with my seatmate, a gentleman visiting the USA from England. His name was, Mr. Gould, and he was a psychologist studying what he called, "America's Cloak Culture." He surmised that American mothers were shortchanging their youngsters by over-protecting them...debilitating and somewhat smothering them in an effort to protect them from harm. It was a fascinating discussion, because it also included some exceptional advice regarding the teaching career I was about to begin. I never forgot Mr. Gould and that chance meeting which concluded with his strange parting remark, "I'll know how you are doing."
I can think of more significant miniscule encounters with passers-by, a smile, a greeting that just seemed extraordinarily sweet. Some believe these "strangers" are really angels in disguise. Who is to say? Something to wonder about as we take note of all such unexpected, meaningful moments-in-time that mysteriously take place serendipitously in our lives. I can imagine they occur in everyone's life...they just need to take note!!
