Having recently worked as an addictions counselor in a prison, this story shares the struggles of being incarcerated and using creativity as a way of staying somewhat balanced. It is a challenging environment and not just because of fellow inmates. It is because many of the Corrections Officers are the most cold hearted and judgmental people I have ever known. Creativity not only helps them survive the day to day negativity, but often leads to job opportunities on the outside. The artists I've known always stand out. One guy was teaching himself the art of pinstriping. His work was amazing. Great story. Also, I have spent many years in the food service industry among the many other hats I have worn. Being a good cook was a plus while raising my son.
