That Swiss saying, “No shortcuts today, I am in a hurry,” strikes me as a precursor or variation of the "Measure twice, cut once" wisdom popularized by Stephen Covey and doubtless others. The counsel of both proverbs is, "Do the discipline." Then there's this--ahem--"timeless" and equally wise quotation from John Steinbeck: "Time is the coin of your life. It is the only coin you have and only you can determine how it will be spent. Be careful lest you let other people spend it for you."
