In the creation of community we must first look into ourselves to better understand our perspectives, fears and thought patterns so that we can better ascertain what drives us, or not, into community. How we look at the world, through lack or abundance, will chart our course on how we respond to and reach into the communities around us. How our built environments are created also impacts how we relate to each other in community. There is a transition going on but there are many factors driving it - mostly ourselves. The potential from each individual will add to how we recreate our future.
As I work in the field of urban forestry I also see thatimportant part of the "community" that we talk about is the natural environment that enfolds us. As we protect and enhance the natural systems around us we come together to create community in still another way. This is not about bartering, it's about investing in the future - which is our legacy. I suspect that it's also an inherent need since people need trees and trees need people.
