Mink! Champion of Title IX

Mink! Champion of Title IX

Mar 5, 2023-- If you're a woman who played sports, or have girls or women in your life who did or do, then you will want to see this remarkable story that explains who made that possible. This short documentary tells the story of Title IX through the eyes of Wendy, daughter of the amazing Patsy Takemoto Mink, a Japanese American from Hawaii who became the first woman of color elected to the U.S. Congress. The film shows her difficult mission to co-author and defend Title IX, the 1972 law that transformed athletics for girls and women for generations in America. Having met obstacles at so many turns for being a woman and for being a woman of color, she turned those rejections into a determination to make a difference in the world by changing laws that prevented women and others from living freely. This film is a reminder to never take for granted that one person can change the world. As she said while speaking to Congress, "No matter how an individual has been excluded in the past, an individual DOES count!" (898 reads)
